The drama “Tosha-khana blues” is being played out on a scale that is unprecedented and has attracted international attraction as it involves high-ranking state functionaries such as an incumbent de-facto ruler of a country and a former head of a government. Obviously, the public disclosure of the issue is detrimental to the reputation of the political operatives associated with power in Pakistan. Unfortunately, the local conflict between the contending factors in the country has gone haywire and has enveloped areas about which intense discretion is required to be observed. In their typical shortsightedness the perpetrators of this stupidity must have calculated that the issue will die down with time without realising that such matters leave lingering shadows in their wake that haunt interstate relations for a long time to come. On the other hand, as is the Tosha-khana blues wont, nothing will come out of this frenzy even after wasting literally hundreds of hours of airtime on TV chat shows except that wounds will deepen and bitterness increased. The major cause of worry is that where this mad race is going to end and how much more price it is going to extract. TW
