There is never a dull day in the country’s political arena Throwing each other out and astounding things keep on happening with remarkable regularity. The affairs related to Chaudhries of Gujrat are fast becoming an amazing drama that is unfolding rapidly. The latest act played was the tit-for-tat ousting of the Ch. Shujaat Hussain, erstwhile head of the Chaudhry family from the presidency of PMLQ. This move came days after Ch. Shujaat dished out a show-cause notice to his former lieutenant of decades Ch. Parvez Elahi suspending his membership over his comments regarding the party’s possible merger with the PTI. The change-of-generation differences in the ranks of PMLQ started appearing in March last year just before the tabling of a no-confidence motion against the former PM with Ch. Parvez prompted by his son suddenly took a U-turn and entered the PTI bandwagon while Ch. Shujaat kept on supporting the then-opposition. The split widened during the saga of CM Punjab’s election when the candidature of Ch. Parvez was opposed by Ch. Shujaat who instead supported PMLN nominee for the position. Though Ch. Shujaat extended an olive branch to Ch. Parvez asking him to put an end to differences but the lure of office prevented any agreement. TW
