One curious change of fortune took place in respect of Lt Gen (R) Amjad Shoaib, a well-known defense analyst, who was retired general arrested by Islamabad police on charges of inciting the public against state institutions. The complaint lodged against him mentioned that through his statement he tried to create further enmity, anarchy, and hatred between the government and the opposition adding that Lt-Gen (R) Shoaib had passed these remarks according to a well-thought conspiracy and planning to further weaken the country.
A case was registered against him for causing incitement with a view to dissuading the government from performing its official and legal duties and he was subsequently remanded in police custody. On his remand hearing the prosecution alleged that hatred was spread against the government, opposition, and government officials.
It was also pointed out that the relations between the opposition and the government are not well and they could get worse in wake of his inciting statement. The prosecutor mentioned that the sections of law imposed on him merit a sentence of five years. The defending lawyer however questioned the relevance of registering a case against the retired general arrested and insisted that he did not commit an offense. The Weekender
