Reprehensible Remark despite the fact that the collective memory of Pakistanis is conspicuously short, the sexist comment made by Imran Khan against Maryam Nawaz is till reverberating in the polity. A good deal of people have taken this remark as reiteration of profound misogyny prevalent in Pakistani social milieu that is so compelling that even its top ranks are not immune to it. The impression is gaining strength that a playboy-turned politician has gone to the extent of policing women in a manner comparable to the attitude of the Taliban rulers in Afghanistan that is simply deplorable. The Reprehensible Remark is all the more contemptible as it was uttered by a person who insists that he knows the West like no one else yet contemptuously ignored the respect accorded to the fairer sex there. The most worrying aspect of the matter was the lack of remorse shown by Imran Khan for his uncalled-for Reprehensible Remark. On the contrary the minions of his party displayed the typical partisanship they are now known for. It should be kept in view that the wounds inflicted by verbiage sometimes never heal and come back to haunt their perpetrators. TW
