It took the Islamabad authorities more than five hours to get hold of a rampaging leopard that escaped from a safari park and resurfaced in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) amid panicked residents. Soon videos started making rounds showing the leopard running around the housing society with many TikTokers having gathered around dangerously close to the feline despite warnings from the staff to stay indoors.
Prancing around the vicinity the leopard panicked when finding itself trapped but ended up scaling walls and running into houses. The leopard could also be seen attacking the staff hurting three people with one person from a private security shot at the leopard without any regard for the safety of people gathered on the site though this was denied by the authorities.
The authorities after failing to lure the animal into a cage for the rampaging leopard had to use a tranquilizer to sedate the animal and confine it in a closed space. It was known that the leopard would be kept at a rescue center that used to be the Islamabad zoo. Within the areas comprising the national capital, this was not the first time that leopards disrupt life by entering settlements obviously due to encroachment into their habitat. The Weekender
