Purana Pakistan comes calling

Snippets

Purana Pakistan comes calling PMLN supporters to stage a protest in London outside the residence of Jemima Goldsmith, the ex-wife of former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan. A throng of PMLN supporters waving flags, holding banners and placards chanted slogans in favour of their party supremo Nawaz Sharif and against Imran Khan. Police contingents deployed outside Jemima’s home were also seen in the TV footage. Jemima was understandably upset about the protest and castigated the protestors and tweeted that protests outside her house have targeted her children and hurling anti-Semitic abuse on social media is almost like she is back in the 90s in Lahore. The Purana Pakistan comes calling protests were in response to the protests outside Nawaz Sharif’s London residence earlier. Interestingly, supporters of the PMLN and the PTI had faced off outside Nawaz’s London residence as one group had celebrated and the other had protested Imran Khan’s ouster. A heavy police contingent had stood in a chain between the two groups as they had chanted slogans against each other’s leaders. The misplaced enthusiasm shown by overseas Pakistanis may soon prove harmful to their interests in the country they now reside in but it would hardly affect their targeted Pakistani political leaders.
