In an unconventional land like Pakistan certain things still manage to surprise people though they should not. The latest of such rare occurrences is the perpetual arrest warrant issued against Ishaq Dar by an accountability court. Dar has lived a charming life as he was transported abroad surreptitiously in the aircraft of the then PM when he reportedly confronted some high-ups refusing to release money. With the resurgence of his party as the ruling entity he is known to be guiding the economic policy from exile insisting upon cutting down security expenditure. It was Dar who first voiced the intention of his party to leave the government and call for elections in a bid to emphasise that it was not willing to pay the economic price of the policies of the previous government. There must have been plenty of beef in his argument that has resulted in the issuance of a perpetual warrant of arrest. Dar must have weighed the options before jumping into the fray as he is well aware of the standard operating procedure usually adopted by the quarters he was confronting. Whether he will be able to clinch the argument is anybody’s guess and it would be safe not to hazard one. TW
