Ex-ISI chief and retired Lt Gen Faiz Hameed has forcefully asserted that he will never join politics. His so-called No to politics leanings were revealed after a video gained traction on the social media that showed him attending a gathering in his native Chakwal during which a speaker lauded his services and requested him to join politics and play his role in the development of the country. Subsequently, it was conjectured that he may take over PTI in case Imran Khan is disqualified from taking part in elective politics but the retired general emphatically denied the speculation and made it categorically clear that he will neither join politics nor the PTI after the mandated regulation of refraining from elective office two years or even afterwards. His denial is viewed in the backdrop of the fact that during his tenure as head of country’s premier intelligence agency he was the butt of criticism of politicos particularly the leadership of the PMLN that alleged him for playing an active role in political matters that they considered was detrimental to their cause. Just last month he opted to seek early retirement from service as he was sidelined in promotion to the top-most positions of the army. TW
