In a marvel of reckless ingenuity Pakistanis are widely known for, a drone laden with six kilograms of drugs worth millions made a crash landing in the vicinity of Lahore. It must have been a spectacle to watch a large cluster of yellow packs attached to the unique flying object. This unique method of aerial transportation must have added to the problems of agencies dealing with narcotics. Another worrying angle is that such shifting took place locally indicating increase in its usage indigenously that is already known to be quite high. With only few drug rehabilitation facilities available in the country, the issue of drug addiction has become a national cause for concern. It also reveals the growing narcotics demand within the country pushing the drug dealers to devise novel methods of delivery. This mode of transportation will make it challenging for the outfits entrusted with anti-narcotics duties and they will find it difficult to prove possession if the illicit substance carrier is being operated remotely. The agencies will be required to frame new drone policies aimed at precluding Narco-submersibles to operate with impunity and they may be compelled to proscribe unmanned flyers from engaging in such activities.
