Heckling Goes On – It has become a national menace that has refused to abate. The recent episode was related to information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb who was viciously heckled during buying coffee in London by people wearing PTI colors. Some of the hecklers shouting ‘chorni, chorni’ were seen following her with one of them commenting that she makes grand claims on television in Pakistan but she does not have a dupatta on her head. The hecklers yelled and jeered at her through a megaphone indicating that this event was planned. The detestable practice of heckling is becoming deep rooted now and is resorted to very often and is very embarrassing.
The hecklers do not care about the nature of the occasion or place and follow instructions conveyed to them by their often misguided yet overzealous leadership. In the process, they pay no heed whether they are violating the sanctity of holy places of disturbing the decorum of high state offices. Unfortunately, their leaderships apparently enjoy the Tefllon-like protection, and nothing seemingly can harm them but that is not the case with the society and the country that ultimately bear the brunt. Something is required to be done about it. The Weekender
