Greece Boat Tragedy

Greece Boat Tragedy – Pakistanis keep on suffering on virtually all accounts and there is no reprieve for them. The latest tragedy to hit was the death of approximately 300 Pakistanis of would-be migrants when the fishing boat they were traveling in capsized in the Mediterranean. It is reported that at least 600 migrants consisting of Pakistanis, Afghans, Egyptians, Palestinians and Syrians out of possibly 750 lost their lives for a future that never was. Regrettably, the absence of help by the coastal authorities is part and parcel of Europe’s larger xenophobic policy that aims to keep migrants out. Though Europe’s callousness may be responsible for this tragedy but only partially as the miseries of life in the developing world including Pakistan forces people, particularly the youth, to get out of Pakistan irrespective of the price they have to pay. Unfortunately, this was not first of the kind of such tragedy but it is the continuation of a string of such heart-breaking accidents. The state of affairs Pakistanis find themselves in is the obvious result of successive governments that made virtually no attempt to rein in the ever-increasing human trafficking mafia that practically put desperate people on the path of death and destruction.
