Deliberate falsehoods – It is a pity to observe that the incumbent dispensations never learn from past experiences and never hesitate to paint a false picture of practically all actions they take. The petroleum minister of the coalition government claimed that the country imported Russian oil on discounted rate and keeps on insisting upon the stance he has taken, even when a Russian minister ruled out any sort of exclusive discount for Pakistan on the purchase of Urals crude from Moscow. Though one cannot condone the wrongful assertion but what could be done if the country’s prime minister toed the same line when he announced that the first Russian discounted crude oil cargo had arrived and offloaded at the port in Karachi. It appears that there is unspoken consent among the ruling cadres of the country to paint a false picture of almost every action irrespective of the harm they cause to the reputation of the country. They also do not care that they become butt of jokes for their ill-conceived public stances that turn out to be factually incorrect and false. There is no system in the country to hold them accountable for all the falsities they spread and their negative impact. The Weekender
