Dark Web Raises Its Head In Pakistan – The dark web looked a distant problem till recently but it looks that the forces that always need to hoodwink the people of Pakistan have unwittingly brought this monster closer to home without realising that it is very difficult to put this genie back in bottle. It usually begins with leaks of documents going on to audio leaks and graduating on to video leakages.
Though authenticity of such leakages is often challenged but there always exists a strong chance of them being true. Pakistan is pretty helpless in wake of such attacks as it is bereft of strong libel laws and most annoyingly its judiciary considers character assassination child’s play and pays scant attention to it.
Since the 1980s when it hit the West, it has tightened its libel laws but still prominent people face the brunt of this menace as recently happened with the female PM of a West European country. Pakistan public opinion is notoriously gullible and follows the lead given by any charismatic Pied Piper. The dark web raises its head in Pakistan and it can be greatly instrumental in providing more than adequate assistance to such misguided populist leaders and may harm the national cause for a long time to come.
