Mosque Shut Down in India

Mosque Shut Down in India – The oppression of Muslims continues unabated in India and the latest outrage against them was the shutting down of a mosque located in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-controlled Maharashtra state whose administration shut down an 800-year old mosque following a complaint by an RSS-linked Hindu group. The mosque in Jalgaon suddenly become inaccessible to the Muslim community after the district collector passed a restraining order while hearing a complaint filed by the right-wing organisation. While deploying the Police he asked the tehsildar to take charge of the mosque which he described as disputed, a favourite term used by Hindu extremists to crack down on Muslim places of worship though this venerated structure was property registered under the Waqf Board. The mosque became suddenly controversial because of the complaint filed by reportedly a member of RSS and Bajrang Dal on behalf of an unregistered organisation called Pandavwada Sangharsh Samiti claiming the mosque was built over a Hindu place of worship and should be taken over by the state authorities. The complainant also claims that the Masjid Trust has illegally encroached over the space. In fact, the Archaeological Survey of India is on record stating that the mosque has been an open and accessible space for Muslims since time immemorial. The Weekender
